The position will be located at the Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC) located in Portsmouth, Virginia. The Navy and Marine Corps Public Health Center (NMCPHC) provide leadership
and expertise to ensure mission readiness through disease prevention and health promotion in support of the National Military Strategy. This acquisition will service the scientific analysis core
requirement for ongoing scientific and technical efforts of the NMCPHC’s mission.
Some of the scientific analysis areas to be supported include health risk assessment, deployment health, health surveillance, population health and health information, and include the public health
areas of preventive medicine, health promotion, health analysis, epidemiology, medical entomology, disease surveillance, forensic urine drug testing, industrial hygiene, occupational health and
safety, and environmental health. This requirement is essential to ensure Navy and Marine Corps customers (organizations and personnel) are provided responsive public health services by providing
timely and effective public health/force health protection information to improve operational readiness.
The Epidemiologist will analyze data, prepares scientific reports and presents internally and externally, under the instruction of the Senior Staff. S/he will assist in the utilization of a combination of scientific approaches to improve performance and robustness in the production process and, on an ongoing basis, to generate new knowledge. Scientist should have experience in one or more of the following disciplines: chemistry, biology, mathematics, botany and geology.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Ability to coordinate and facilitate functions of cross‐functional teams of professional and support personnel in conducting routine and non‐routine epidemiologic evaluations.
• Demonstrate skills in written and oral communication.
• Working experience with personal computer use and familiarity with computerized database management and statistical software programs such as Statistical Analysis System (SAS).
REQUIREMENTS:
• Master’s degree in Epidemiology, Public Health or related field is required
• Must have at least 3 years of experience working in Public Health
• Must have at least 3 years of SAS experience
• SAS Level 1 Certification is preferred, but not required
• Military Health System (MHS) experience is preferred
• Must be comfortable conducting analysis and presenting their findings to leadership in various forums
BELOW IS THE GENERAL ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA BUT NOT REQUIRED FOR ALL PERSONNEL: Must have experience in working and/or managing research projects; including scientific and technical experience in Public Health with specific expertise in the study, analysis, evaluation, assessment or interpretation of information relevant to this task. Relevant areas to this task include Clinical Epidemiology, Epidemiology, Medical and Disease Surveillance, Preventive Medicine, Deployment Health, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Health, Laboratory Testing Services, and Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
CLEARANCE INFORMATION: Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance. Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information (up to and including a Secret clearance).
